(Image Credit: Home Box Office, Inc.) Four hot vampires, left to right: Eric (Alexander Skarsgard), Pam (Kristen Bauer van Straten), Jessica (Deborah Ann Woll), and Bill (Stephen Moyer)

Tonight’s True Blood episode “Burning Down the House” begins with a bang, or better a fairy spark, from our heroine Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin). As both Eric (under Antonia’s spell) and Bill continue their battle to a vampire death, a strong glow of light beams from her hand onto Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard), shaking him out of the spell and shocking all of his memories back. This causes them to cease fighting, as the lead witch Antonia/Marnie (Fiona Shaw) leaves with her fellow witches and two of the spellbound vampires. Eventually the vampires and Sookie turn their attention to the victims of the coven massacre. This content is for members only.

True Blood: On the Run

(Image Credit: Home Box Office, Inc.) Sookie fantasies about Eric (left) and Bill in a dreamy bi threesome about being in love with two men.

True Blood’s latest episode “Let’s Get Out of Here” (aka “Run!”) begins right where the previous episode closed, with Alcide Herveaux (Joe Manganiello) finding an injured Sookie Stackhouse (played by the openly bi actress Anna Paquin) and carrying her away, as both Eric and Bill sense her distress due to their “bloodbond” (i.e. humans are telepathically linked to the vampires they have fed from). Of course, her former lover Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer) races to her aid, taking her from Alcide into her home, while Eric was taken away by the lead witch Antonia/Marnie (Fiona Shaw). Eventually Sookie recovers, and Bill joins others in the search for Eric.

Sookie soon rests and falls asleep with a quite a fantasy. She begins dreaming about Eric when Bill shows up.  Continue reading »

Reflections On How Far We’ve Come

Bisexual Pride Flag (Image) Wikimedia.com/Wikignome0529

It’s that time of year again! Happy Bisexual Pride Day everyone! Last year I reflected on how far I felt we’d come, and this year I’m doing it again. It’s been one very active year! Last October there was the March on Washington, which we had to go through a lot of trouble to get included in, but once we managed it, we were actually fairly well represented, remembered in the speeches, and even noticed somewhat by the media. Our visibility has increased quite a bit since then. We were invited to participate in a BLGT Envisioning WorkshopBi Social Network is about to kick off a major visibility campaign, and we have Bi Talk Radio, an an e-shop, and other bi sites are out all over the world and very visible as well, and I see more people coming out as bisexual.

In Chicago, Bi Social Network has gotten involved with the Center on Halsted. In the last series of “The Real World”, there were two bisexual housemates, neither one of which backed down from calling themselves bisexual when faced with rampant biphobia and pressure  to do so. More celebrities have come out as bisexual, and more TV programs have explored the theme of bisexuality. LOGO has been airing more bisexual programming too, having designated “bisexual days”. It’s still a small amount compared to gay and lesbian and even transgender shows, but it’s definitely a noticeable increase. There is even a bisexual film company and an online bisexual web series that has become quite popular!

All of this is wonderful and I hope it continues, but unfortunately I’ve noticed the flip side of this as well. As bisexual visibility increases, so does biphobia from both the gay and the straight communities, and what is very sad is too often they sound exactly the same. The vicious incident that occurred last March was a sobering reminder that there are still many who do not want our presence in what they feel is “their community”, and are willing to harass people to get their way, and still have popular support. Every time a celebrity comes out, there’s at least one sarcastic article written about them, casting doubt on their bisexuality; too often in a supposed “BLGT magazine”; one can also find random articles casting doubt on the exist of bisexuality. If it’s a woman, they say she’s just doing it for attention. If it’s a man, they say he’s really gay.

Then of course there are some of the comments that are written about bisexuals mentioned in articles—some of them are so appalling that I wonder if they’re written by children. These are people who probably wouldn’t dare make a racist remark and get angry (rightfully so) if someone made a homophobic remark, but seem to have no problem talking about bisexuals as if they’re  dirt. There was a huge amount of biphobia this past year, which I addressed in some of my previous articles. What I sense in both the articles and the comments is fear, and that is something I don’t understand. What are they afraid of—that more people will come to terms with who they really are?

What’s been great to see is how the bisexual community has been uniting more and more to meet these biphobic incidents head on. When a community gets better at uniting, they can get so much more done, so I hope to see more unity! In a way even the biphobia shows we are moving in the right direction. Every minority faces a backlash when becoming more visible, and when the establishment feels threatened, it means we’re getting somewhere. What we have on our side is time—most younger people are much more open to the idea of bisexuality and tolerant of bisexuals. I see horrible comments written below articles about bisexuals , but I also see comments from both gay and straight allies under these same articles admonishing those who leave the original bigoted comments. I think the tide is eventually going to turn, but we need to keep up with the visibility and the unity, as well having more of our own space, media and community events devoted to the bisexual community.

So on this Bisexual Pride Day, everyone be happy and celebrate, but also remember to keep doing what you are doing, and if it is possible, and get out there and be visible!

Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer & Alexander Skarsgard Shows Bisexual as Normal

Alexander Skarsgard, Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer on HBO's True Blood (Cover: Rollingstone.com)

Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer and Alexander Skarsgard show off their hot bods on the cover of Rolling Stone—as they talk about vampire life, Paquin coming out bisexual, being so normal and a fun dig at Twilight’s Robert Pattinson. Though, not to worry Twilighters, Stephen has been known to say that True Blood and Twilights success has helped both shows/movies out with the vampire fan base.

Speaking of  vampires, seems Moyer is all about trying to understand the correlation between sex and the first bit.

“If we go from a base level, vampires create a hole in the neck where there wasn’t one before. It’s a de-virginization–breaking the hymen, creating blood and then drinking the virginal blood. And there’s something sharp, the fang, which is probing and penetrating and moving into it. So that’s pretty sexy. I think that makes vampires attractive.” He laughs a little. “Plus, Robert Pattinson is just hot, right?” —Stephen Moyer

Vampire Art, Sex and Love

Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer have just announced their engagement in real life—yes, arts does follow life. As the couple have been together since their auditions.  Also, Paquin has recently oust herself in a PSA campaign regarding sexual tolerance on the Give A Damn” Camaign.

Seems Moyer isn’t worried about the bisexual attraction. As many bisexuals know that there are many opposite-sex bi couple in the community. Paquin feels being bisexual is a normal thing and wanted the world to treat it as every day news.

“I’m not sure what the reaction was, but I’m glad I did it. There’s such an impulse to turn it into a sensational thing, when what I was really hoping to say is that it’s normal and not interesting. (smiles) I feel so lucky right now. Life is pretty great. —Anna Paquin

Paquin in between two hot men, I should say “life” is freaking fang-tastic. (couldn’t resist)

Would be interesting, if Bi Social Network could get Paquin, Moyer and Skarsgard to join our Bisexual PSA campaign, which starts this month—in the hopes of showcasing famous and non famous men and women alike.  This campaign will be a year long mission, to highlight that being bisexual is no big thing and ‘normal’ and everyone that comes out as bisexual should be proud of the fact. Just like Anna Paquin and her soon to be vamp husband Stephen Moyer.

You can see the final episode of True Blood on September 19. Where the show left us with Eric, played by Alexander Skarsgard outside in sun to die.

What more vamp blood? Buy the second season of True Blood on DVD or Blu-ray at TLA Video. (We are featuring the show all month long!)

Got to love the social media aspect of promoting True Blood—using this fantasy blog of Baby Vamp Jessica. Seems she has a lot of time on her hands. “Bill where are you?” I do love my Pam, she’s such a saucy minks.

If you missed last weeks nail bitter with an all star action packed full hour—lets just say a few favorite characters got the ax! Ah, I’ going to miss Lorena, she was so wicked to Bill!

Also, if you haven’t read the books and don’t want to know what the hell was whispered into Eric’s ear by Sookie’s cousin, DO NOT go on the forums of HBO! Could they have at least  added a spoiler alert! Some of us are just getting into the books! Yeah, I know TB doesn’t follow the books 100 percent, but come on!

No Benefit Of The Doubt For Bisexuals

Anna Paquin, Actress in HBO's hit True Blood

Lately bisexuality seems to have been a hot topic all over the Internet. Having wanted us to be noticed more, I thought this was a good thing until I actually looked at some of the so called “attention” we’ve been getting.  Ouch!  Some days it pays to not read!

One of the most [misplaced] articles I’ve seen in a while was this one by Brian Gawker called “Where are all the Bisexual Men?, written by yet another gay man criticizing bisexuals (seriously, doesn’t it get old after a while)?  In what is honestly one of the oddest articles I’ve ever read, Gawker proceeds to somewhat actually defend bisexual men, by saying things like “It’s a horrible double standard [bisexuality in women accepted more than in men] and it’s one I think we should end. How? Well, we need some famous dudes to come out as bi. We know you’re out there, guys.”  For once, I totally agree with that part! What’s unfortunate is that too often it’s people like Gawker who go around saying bisexual men are “really gay” when they actually do try to come out.

Yet, in this same article, Gawker totally [bad mouths] bisexual women, saying they’re basically straight women who like to get a “little funky.”  “Just like Canadians are basically Americans with a few subtle differences (healthcare, politeness, love of hockey) bisexuals are basically just straight people who like to get a little funky. Just look at [Anna] Paquin (Actress in HBO’s True Blood) and [Megan] Mullally (Actress in Will & Grace, The Megan Mullally Show) who are both in monogamous relationships with men. Sure, they might think about a little lady love every once in awhile, but they’re basically in the same relationship as every other breeder on the planet. Lady Gaga admits that she’s never actually let another woman ride on her disco stick, and her Sapphic proclivities—seem to be a way to bind her closer to the gay community—that she fights for and that continues to play remixes of every one of her singles at every one of their social gatherings.”  Wow—could he get anymore misogynistic?  And you always have to love it when someone uses a slur like “breeders,” when the reverse is of course unacceptable.

ADVERT

I have a pretty good answer for that Gawker—there are a bit more (not as many as the stereotype says) bisexual women and men who wind up with men because there is a huge amount of biphobia both among straight women and lesbians.  A straight women’s reaction to a bi guy is often “ick!” or “you’re really gay” and she too often won’t go near him.  While bisexual men often face suspicion and doubt from gay men, from what I’ve seen, a gay man is still more likely to date a bisexual man than a straight woman is, if for no other reason than to convince the bisexual man he is “really gay.”  On the flip side, a straight man is more likely to date a bisexual woman (albeit not always for the right reasons) than a lesbian is—as there is the unfortunate but prevailing stereotype in the lesbian community that a bisexual woman will “always leave [them] for a man.”  It seems to be easier for bisexuals to just date other bisexuals of either gender. So straight women and lesbians—if you want more bisexual men and women to date women, then start dating us!

As I said in my last article about Christina Aguilera, couldn’t it just be that many of these celebrity women, who have come out as bisexual (and were rumored to be before that) really are bi, and are finally coming out?  Couldn’t it be that it’s not just a publicity stunt?  Isn’t a truly objective media source suppose to actually wait and see before making assumptions?  Yet again, this seems to be asking for too much.  At the very least, Gawker should consider himself lucky that he has the privilege of not constantly having his sexuality questioned by a community that claims to support him.  It’s too bad he can’t seem to extend that same courtesy to bisexuals, especially to bisexual women. Unfortunate, but frequent—it doesn’t seem like it’s going to change anytime soon.
