It began in 2005—well, it actually started a lot sooner than that—1963 to be exact. On November 23 of that year a science fiction show materialized on the BBC by the name of Doctor Who. Rather unspectacular really—a show about a doddering old man travelling through time and space in his Police Box time machine along with various companions—having adventures and saving the Universe, all in a day’s work for the Doctor and his companions. Unspectacular when held against the plethora of other shows of the era— Lost in Space made its debut in 1965, Star Trek would appear in 1966, and several others would join the lot. The Doctor, however, endured and attracted the attentions of a very important future member of the bisexual, gay, lesbian and transgender community—Russell T. Davies. Continue reading »
